‘Indian Security forces conniving with DHD militants’—AZSU

Dimapur, June 17 (MExN): The All Zeliangrong Students’ Union of Assam, Manipur and Nagaland (AZSU-AMN) has strongly condemned the escalation of violence in troubled  NC Hills, perpetuated by what it called the DHD militants in connivance with the Indain Security Forces. A press note issued by  AZSU president Mirhu and assistant general secretary Nchaheing expressed concern that even after the deployment  of more than 17,000 security forces comprising of paramilitary, CRPF and Assam Rifles by the Centre in addition to Assam police personnel, the situation in NC Hills remains out of control.

The AZSU alleged that the security forces were engaging in sinister designs by providing security to the DHD militants for carrying out atrocities upon  innocent and unarmed Zeliangrong villagers. On June 16, fully armed DHD militants escorted by Indian security forces arrived at Michiduingram, 23 km from Haflong town and discriminately fired upon the innocent villagers leading to the loss of 16 lives, mostly children and the burning down of 50 houses, it claimed.

The Zeliangrong students’ body questioned the Government of Assam as to why the situation had escalated after more deployment of security forces. “Is the security forces there to protect the lives and properties of the indigenous people or to play the role of divisiveness?” the press note queried and claimed that on the pretext of ceasefire, the DHD (D) have been openly moving around in Haflong town with full arms even in such a situation which is in full knowledge of the Indian security forces.
