Phek, December 27 (MExN): Kami Nöhlhi Mehpö Tychü was held at Kami village under Pfutsero sub-division in Phek District on December 22 and 23. Kami Nöhlhi Mehpö Tychü is an event where all citizens of the village come together and take part in various community activities.
Minister for Planning & Coordination, Land Revenue and Parliamentary Affairs, Neiba Kronu graced the occasion as the special guest, stated a DIPR report.
Speaking at the community gathering on the first day, Kronu shared his experiences growing up in Kami Village. He expressed his happiness at the programme being organised so that people can come together and know their roots and their heritage. He hoped that more such programmes will be organised in the near future, even in a grander manner. He also asked the gathering to preserve their culture and tradition and pass it on to the future generations.
The Minister encouraged the gathering to maintain cleanliness and to be hygienic and be a model to others. He also called upon the people to celebrate the festive season in a meaningful way. He assured of his continued support for the welfare of the community.
The Minister also inaugurated Kyetsa, a village gate, and unveiled a monolith commemorating the occasion during the same at his native village.
On the second day on December 23, the community observed Rünie Rahzhe, which is a practice observed during Rünie (Paddy Festival) where all abled-citizens of the village come together and carry firewood. In this age-old practice, the men cut down trees and make loads of firewood for the women to carry back to the village. In order to keep this tradition alive, it was organized where the community took part wearing their traditional attires.
During the course of the two days, various programmes and community feasts were held. Minister, Neiba Kronu also inaugurated a multi-purpose hall at Kami village on December 23.
