Indigenous games marks Tsüngremmung Mini Hornbill Festival

Kokchung, August 3 (MExN): The third day of the Tsüngremmung Mini Hornbill Festival Mokokchung 2019 witnessed tug of war and other indigenous games competition. 


Gracing the occasion as the special guest, Deputy Commissioner, Mokokchung, Rajesh Soundararajan said the experiences of the last three days are testament to all the virtues that make up the essence of the Tsüngremmung Festival; as people from all walks of life came together to participate and share the message of love and brotherhood. 


On the participation of cultural troupe from within and outside the district and even from the neighboring state (Assam), he said “we can come together and unite as a community and village to strengthen the bond of brotherhood.” He also appealed to live by the same virtues even after the Festival is over to strive forward and harvest not only what one produce but also harvest peace, brotherhood, health and a promising future. 


Earlier, welcome address was delivered by Imkummeren Jamir, President MTLT; while a special song was presented by “The Framers”. 


The special guest gave away prizes to the winners of various competitions held during the three-day long Festival: Inter-Range Cultural Dance competition- 1st Jangpetkong (Dibuia Village), 2nd Tsurangkong Range (Longpayimsen Village), 3rd Asetkong (Longjang Village): Tug of War (Men); winner - Alempang Ward, Runner-up - Mongsenbai Ward; Tug of War (Women); winner- Sangtemla Ward, Runner-up - Yimyu Ward: Grease Pole climbing; 1st - Sungkumen Ward, 2nd - Dilong Ward, 3rd - Yimyu Ward: Stilt Bamboo Pole walk - 1st Sangtemla Ward, 2nd - Sungkumen Ward, 3rd - Alongmen Ward: Spear Throw - 1st Penli Ward, 2nd - Majakong Ward, 3rd - Arkong Ward: Photography Competition on the theme “ Beti Bachao Beti Pathao”; 1st - Kilemsungla, 2nd -Imkongsungla, 3rd - Mongden Jamir.
