Indigenous games and sports competition among educational institutions of Dimapur marked the second day of the Spring Festival 2016 organized by the North East Zone Cultural Centre (NEZCC) in Dimapur.
Nine schools namely Unity Christian HSS, Vision Home HSS, Christian Mission HSS, Rincho Academy, Brothers and Sisters School, Great Commission HSS, Nagaland Police Central School, Immanuel School, Highland Hall School competed in tug-of-war, bamboo stilt walking, greased bamboo pole climbing and traditional ko-karting competition.
Teachers also participated in one event- bamboo stilt walking amidst loud cheer and excitement from the students.
Noting that traditional sports and games are intangible heritage and a symbol of the cultural diversity, NEZCC director Lipokmar Tzudir in a brief address to the students, said sporting events such as this was not only about competing with one another, but also about making new friends.
“That is what culture is all about-making friends, respecting one another and honouring one another,” Tzudir pointed out.
The sporting event was organized with the objective of promoting and inculcating the knowledge and importance of Naga traditional sports and games.
