Indo-Naga issue: WC, NNPGs reaffirm commitment to inclusive’ dialogue

Dimapur, February 24 (MExN): The Working Committee, Naga National Political Groups (WC, NNPGs), under the convenorship of Gen (retired) MB Neokpao has reiterated its commitment to pursue an inclusive political engagement.

During a joint consultation held recently, ‘comprising senior leaders from every affiliate,’ the WC initiated an in-depth analysis of crucial issues confronting the Naga people and the emerging political landscape of the region.

In a statement issued by its Media Cell, the WC, NNPGs reiterated its commitment to “sincerely pursue an inclusive political engagement” among all Naga political groups and stakeholders in order to ensure a consolidated approach to resolve the Indo-Naga political issue comprehensively.

The WC, NNPGs expressed appreciation to former Interlocutors and the outgoing Advisor, NE (MHA) and Government of India (GoI) representative, AK Mishra. It acknowledged Mishra’s endurance, patience and maturity in sustaining the peace process despite overwhelming challenges at times.

It added that the appointment of the new GoI representative, Ajit Lal, would add fresh momentum to the negotiating process. “We are also confident that appointment of new GoI representative Ajit Lal would add fresh momentum to the process. It is further observed that a realistic timeline should be set to resolve the issue,” the statement read. “The continued delay only serves to compound the hardships of the common people and also cause to impede the progress and prosperity of our society as a whole.”

Meanwhile, the WC, NNPGs congratulated the Eastern Naga People’s Organisation (ENPO) on its successful execution of an agreement with the GoI for the Frontier Naga Territory Area (FNTA). It expressed hope that the breakthrough would lead to equitable development and prosperity in the region. It further urged the Eastern region, described as the “fortress of the Naga struggle,” to devote more of its energy and resources towards the collective pursuit of an early political solution.

Addressing recent unfortunate violent incidents within Naga families and other communities in the region, the WC, NNPGs extended sympathy to all victims. It made an earnest appeal to all affected communities to abjure violence and initiate dialogue, invoking the “true Christian spirit of forgiveness and acceptance.”
