Khekiho inaugurates Nagaland Mini Tool Room & Training Centre (NMTTC)
DIMAPUR, AUGust 9 (MExN): The inaugural function of the Nagaland Mini Tool Room & Training Centre (NMTTC) was held today at Industrial Estate Dimapur. H Khekiho Zhimomi, Minister of Industries & Commerce and sericulture & Border Affairs was the Chief Guest at the function. The function was also attended by Lalhuma, Chief Secretary, Nagaland, and a host of other government officers and entrepreneurs.
Minister Khekiho Zhimomi said that the NMTTC will be a facilitator for allowing different people from different departments to come under one roof. “There is no bar for anybody – rich or poor – to invest.” In order to encourage entrepreneurship, the government is providing various subsidies, exemptions and incentives to the entrepreneurs. With the negative attitude of the banks and financial institutions, the economy is still floundering in the state, he said. Zhimomi called upon Naga individuals to take interest in this initiative provided by the government by providing the capital needed to be invested. He concluded by saying that sincerity in this profession is a must and that there must be a strong will and motivation if one is to prosper in this profession.
Lalhuma, Chief Secretary Nagaland also speaking at the occasion said that although over the years, Nagaland has witnessed a steady decline in manufacturing but the last few years have shown encouraging signs. He said that earning money with hard labour is hard to come by. Thankfully, the idea of entrepreneurship is slowly gaining ground among the Nagas, he said. “Nagas must think big” he encouraged and urged entrepreneurs to take calculated risks and at the same time, be judicious about project management, accounting and time management. “Time is money” he reminded. The CS concluded by saying that the NMTTC is the right institution which has come about at the right time and is a very good marriage of equipments and training.
Also, G Keppen Rengma, Director of Industries gave the project report. He said that Rs 9 crores was spent on this project, of which Rs 8.31 crores was provided by the Government of India for incurring the cost of machinery. The rest of the amount was provided by the state government to procure land, infrastructure and facilitate manpower. The total area of the land procured is 6.44 acres for the industry. He added that the main aim behind the NMTTC is for designing and manufacturing of products. The NMTTC will also be involved in training interested individuals through 4-year courses as well as 2 months short term courses. The NMTTC will be run under the care of 8 diploma holders who have received their training from the Central Tool Room & Training Centre, Kolkata.
Alemtemshi Jamir, Principal Secretary of Industries & Commerce, said that history is being made in Nagaland: “Since the dawn of time, tools have made a difference, enabling us to control our world.” He added that the NMTTC will be a computer based centre in which it would be the private sector that must play its vital role in the improvement of the state’s economy.
