The Infamous NPSC Special Recruitment for 10 EAC Posts

The Government of Nagaland’s decision to conduct the infamous NPSC Special Recruitment of 10 EAC posts for the less represented tribes have been cancelled at last with pressure from the so called advanced tribes (Angami, Ao, Kyong and Sümi) and also the direction of withdrawal to the candidates by the ENSF.
When the government announced its intention for the special recruitment drive, the ENSF stated that it had neither asked nor demanded. Nevertheless the government went ahead with its plan. Then the recruitment drive began with candidates filing up the forms and while it was being processed, the so called student bodies of the advanced tribes (of which I also belong) opposed it tooth and nail. As was expected the government representative met with these student bodies which was cordial but without any conclusion. Therefore, both the parties went ahead with their own agenda; the government went ahead with the recruitment drive while the student bodies went ahead with their protest. In the meantime, the fate of the candidates was left in the lurch. Therefore it was in the best interest of the candidates and the timely decision of the ENSF to withdraw their candidates. Ultimately the government was forced to cancel its ambitious plan at the last minute causing untold misery to the aspiring candidates.

There are few things we need to learn from this experience.
1.    If such special recruitments takes place, then will there be another such recruitment every time when some tribes are found less represented? The issue has been raised about the indigenous Kuki and Kachari tribes of Nagaland state.
2.    What if the government went ahead with the recruitment? What and how will be the status of those selected from such recruitment.
3.    If such recruitment is allowed to take place then what is the need to have regular NPSC exams and maintaining a board. The government can always go for special recruitment after verifying the need of every tribe.
4.    Does conducting special recruitment solve the problem? Instead of healing the wound, the government is just trying cover up the wound.
5.    Though the recruitment did not take place, it has already made its impact. i.e; there is divisive and suspicious feelings among the backward and the so called advanced tribes. This is the work of those influential people who always wanted to have a pie in everything and therefore wanted to do away with the interference of the student bodies – beware Naga students.
6.    There is a need for a thorough research on the benefits of the reservation of quota system and what went wrong in its implementation for the last 4 decades. The consecutive governments have to answer to this.
At this time, I humbly request all the parties involved to kindly remain calm and not take any hasty conclusion. There is lot to discuss on the real impact of reservation policy which will make another essay on it.
