Kohima, July 21 (MExN): The Kohima District Congress Committee (KDCC) on Friday stated that the repeated infighting within the Naga People’s Front (NPF) is “putting the welfare of the Naga people and development of the State at stake”.
While acknowledging that the NPF has been mandated by the people to uplift the State in all spheres for the third-time in 2013, the KDCC in a press release contended, “This NPF-III government has nothing worth its achievements for the people of the State but has been busily engaged within the Party leadership crisis while also involving in forcing their wrong decisions upon the general public.”
Further noting that TR Zeliang has once again managed to get back the chair of Chief Minister “through whatever means”, the KDCC questioned whether NPF legislators are so incapable that they had to “bring back someone because of whom Naga people had to shed so much tear.”
The Kohima Congress recalled Zeliang being forced out of the Chief Minister’s chair in the aftermath of the public uprising against his government's decision to hold elections to Urban Local Bodies and further argued that “taking over as the Chief Minister will be adding salt and chilly on the injuries on Naga people.”
The tears of the family members of those killed and the Naga people is not yet dried and the memories of the entire episode are still afresh, it contended. The public uprising against the government’s decision to hold Urban Local Body elections in February had led to the killing of three young Nagas and injuries to several.
In this regard, the KDCC asked the NPF legislators to resign en-masse and pave way for early elections if they find themselves “incompetent” to lead the Naga people “so that a fresh peoples’ government will run the affairs of the State.”
Meanwhile, with regard to Congress not setting up a candidate for the ensuing bye-election to 10-Northern Angami-I Constituency, the KDCC has apprised the public that the party is firm in upholding the provisions of the Representation of Peoples’ Act, which states that bye-election cannot be held if the tenure of the present House is less than a year.
The KDCC added that it was focused on bringing a much required change of Government in the 2018 State General elections and therefore, appealed the general public to continue to render their support in installing a Congress Government, “which will take the State towards development and progress”.
