
DIMAPUR, June 1 (MExN): ‘Information is Power.’ This line which speaks for itself is the motto of the very recently constituted Civil Rights Information Centre (CRIC) for Consumer Rights and the Right to Information (RTI) located at Old Ministers’ Hill, near IOC, Kohima. The CRIC is an infant of the Nagaland Voluntary Consumers Organisation.
“Through the CRIC, an application was submitted to the department of Fire and Emergency Services Government of Nagaland, Nagaland Civil Secretariat seeking an information under the provision of RTI to furnish the related documents of the proceedings and appointment orders of two posts of UDA and three posts and LDA to the office of the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Fire and Emergency Services, Nagaland, Kohima during the year 2006 without calling any interview despite accepting several applications after pasting a notification on the office door of the DIG advertising the said posts,” a release said.
The CIRC said it had learned that appointments were given only to those candidates whose forms were not submitted on time. It further requested the furnishing of related documents mentioning the last date of submission of applications for the said posts and also the legal rights and responsibilities of the DIG for issuing such appointment orders ignoring those application forms submitted in time. Report on influence of politicians and others, if any, and related documents as to why the NPSC was not requisitioned for the conduct of examinations and if any Board was constituted for the said appointments.
The documents are to be furnished in the form of Xeroxed copies for which the costs will be paid by the applicants.
“At the same time another application under RTI was submitted through the Civil Rights Information Centre to the department of Public Relations and Information, Government of Nagaland to furnish the related documents of the proceedings and appointment orders of gazetted posts (Grade I and II) to the dept.,” it said, “without going through NPSC Examination and documents” for not requisitioning these posts to the NPSC for the conduct of examination.
Meanwhile, the CRIC under the directorship of Khezhokhoto Savi will be taking part in a one day workshop on RTI at Kiphire on June 2. The Director, along with Youth Net will also participate on the workshop on RTI at Tuensang on June 9 during the conference of the Mon Tuensang Students Union.
