‘Innocents now victims of Ceasefire violation’

Dimapur, Jan 2 (MExN): The December 30 assault of Reverend K Luruo, Executive Secretary of the Chakhesang Baptist Church Council (CBCC) by NSCN-IM cadres is as much an act of sacrilege as to a complete violation of the ceasefire ground rules, with the innocent bearing the brunt of it. Asserting this in vehement discontent, a wounded CBCC today strongly called for implementation of the ground rules both in letter and spirit in the greater interest of the people.

“This heinous act of the culprits is but a complete violation of the ceasefire ground rules where the innocent public is made to bear the brunt of the ceasefire violations” the CBCC through its President Nungoyi Khesoh and Vice President Rev. Akha Shupao regretted. The CBCC, taking strong cognizance of these violations, appeals to the Government of India and all concern authorities to implement the ceasefire ground rules in letter and spirit in the greater interest of the people.

The council also expressed unhappiness that the sanctity of the church was violated by the cadres in their assault of the reverend. The act amounts to nothing less than sacrilege, CBCC says: The two armed cadres who barged into the official residence of most respected reverend in our council and physically manhandled him and further threatened his family with dire consequences in total disregard to the sanctity of the church is highly deplorable and not expected of any respectable organization. These very acts of sacrilege are most unfortunate and it has deeply hurt the sentiments of the council and the church community in general, the council lamented.

The CBCC also appeals to all “national workers” irrespective of factions and party affiliation to desist from indulging in such acts as meted out to the church leader. These acts betray the very trust and confidence between the churches and “national workers”, CBCC reminded.
