Install proper street lighting for safety, MTLT to power dept

DIMAPUR, JUNE 12 (MExN): The Mokokchung Town Lanur Telongjem (MTLT) has urged the Department of Power to install proper street lighting in Mokokchung town and provide uninterrupted power supply while pointing out that consumers were diligently paying their electricity bills on time.

In a letter addressed to the Executive Engineer, Department of Power, Mokokchung Division, MTLT media cell highlighted that there are many localities in Mokokchung town which needs street lighting, not only for beautification of the town at night but also for the safety of the general public during the night hours.

Pointing out that there are many streets and even vital footpaths in the town which needs to be lighted at night, the MTLT named some streets particularly the road leading from Police Point to the Dr Imkongliba Memorial District Hospital (IMDH), Mokokchung which needed to be lighted immediately.

It said the ‘hospital road,’ which is one of the most important roads in the town, remains a busy road even during night hours as the attendants of patients admitted at IMDH traverse on a daily basis, day and night.

The MTLT also observed that the frames for installing the street lights are already in place- with come just in need of bulbs, while others can be installed on the electric posts standing along the stretch of the road.

In this connection, the MTLT has urged the power department to install the street lights in the different localities, particularly in the hospital road, on priority basis.

The MTLT has also demanded that the power department supply uninterrupted electricity to Mokokchung town. While observing the frequent load shedding in the town, the MTLT said since the residents of Mokokchung town were paying their electricity bills diligently on time every month, there was no excuse or reason for the power department to impose load shedding.

It has therefore urged the power department to rectify the unwarranted load shedding in the town at the earliest.
