Installation pre-paid metering system: EE Dimapur seeks cooperation

Commissioner Police Dimapur assures 'full' assistance

Dimapur, September 2 (MExN): With the issue of implementation of pre-paid metering system and non-payment of electric bill becoming gaining prominence in recent times, the monthly Dimapur DPDB meeting for September on Thursday discussed the matter thoroughly.

As per the directive from higher authority and Ministry of Power, the Department of Power would start implementing Pre-paid metering system in all the offices, towers and quarters, the Executive Engineer (Electrical Division Dimapur) informed the monthly Dimapur District Planning and Development Board (DPDB) meeting chaired by Advisor Zhaleo Rio.

According to the DIPR report, the EE further observed that the Nagas are not used to paying electric bills, and pointed out that once pre paid metering system is introduced, the citizens would realise the need for judicious use of power thereby assuring power stability in the long run.

The EE further sought the cooperation of all the officers, especially police during implementation of the new system, it said.

In reply, the Commissioner Police Dimapur Rothihu Tetseo IPS, assured of full cooperation in terms of workforce to the department, the report informed.

Expressing his personal opinion, Tetseo further suggested for underground wiring system or for using sealed wires in order to avoid power theft, it said.  Members also shared their views about practical problems for monthly payments of bills with regard to offices, as the government releases payment only once in a year for rent, rates taxes, it added.

The members also suggested that the department comes out with a policy for managing the bills, particularly for the Government offices, the report said.

Zhaleo, who is also the Dimapur DPDB Chairman, while noting that the pre-paid metering system was a good step, reminded the department for ensuring accurate and correct billing, it added.
