The Institution of Engineers India (IEI) Nagaland State Centre as the 124th centre in the country was formally launched here today by IEI president Dr T M Gunaraja.
The formal launching was held at Government Polytechnic Kohima in the presence of Engineer-in-Chief Nagaland PWD Er. Krosu Rhetso, officials from IEI and Federation of Nagaland State Engineers Services Association (FONSESA).
IEI Secretary and Director General Maj. Gen. (Retd) Dr. S. Bhattacharyaa announced the first team IEI Nagaland Centre headed by Er. D. A. Shishak as the chairman and Er. I. N Jamir as Honorary Secretary with Rabinderjit S Panesar, Ankur Jain, Visekolie Nakhro and Anand Sethi as members.
In his address, Dr Gunaraja said IEI as part of its centenary celebration would focus area in the North East region because it is not only about inclusivity of the region but “we feel we should learn from the North East because of the region has multi model system of road construction”.
“We will bring our services to the engineers of North East and Nagaland and therefore IEI has decided that to set up a special cell at its Headquarters in Kolkata to provide assistance to all the chairman and secretary of the IEI centres in NE Region,” he said.
Dr Gunaraja also informed that the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has taking the initiative to place the Engineers Bill in the Parliament and while the draft bill will be out soon.
“Engineering profession is not regulated in the country whereas the regulation exists in other parts of the world,” he said adding that with passage of the Bill engineers will have to clear certain levels of examinations as professionals.
Maj. Gen. (Retd) Dr. S. Bhattacharya said the IEI will soon be holding a Engineers looking East seminar at Guwahati. He said North East first is our mission and to bring engineering services of IEI to NE is our prime concern of the centenary year.
He also informed that IEI has already been doing certification of professional engineers in India in a very rigorous process. So now initiating to make the IEI as the nodal body for registration of engineers. IEI has 15 different discipline of engineers certification, he informed.
He also informed that IEI will showcase the innovation of the students from National Institute of Technology. “We will also ensure that technology is used in the correction dimension for continued professional development,” he said.
Stating that IEI firmly believes in the government’s mission of sab ka saath sab ka vikas, and that is why working professionals and diploma holders who are economically challenged can come to us to help.
Engineer-in-Chief Nagaland PWD Er. Krosu Rhetso called upon the engineering fraternity to make Nagaland State Centre of IEI as the best Centre in the country.
“Let us make the best use of it and let us set a good example,” he said.
Indian Engineers Federation chairman Er. C. Debnath, Immediate Past president Er. Sisir Kr. Banerjee and Government Polytechnic Kohima principal Er.K Rhutso also delivered short speeches on the occasion.
Seminar on engineering commission and good governance in engineering profession was also organized by IEI in collaboration with INDEF and FONSESA.
