Insurance coverage for VGs, corpus fund for GBs

‘The Village Guard’ and the Gaon Burahs (GBs) had shot on their arms, with the recent introduction of insurance coverage for the former and creation of a corpus fund for GBs.
As assured earlier, the state government had recently introduced insurance coverage for around 10,000 strength VG personnel in the state. With the new package, the VG personnel will enjoy financial benefit of around Rs 1 lakh on their retirement from the force. Moreover, the next of kin of any VG personnel who died on the line of duty will get financial benefit of almost Rs 2 lakh from the insurance coverage.

On the other hand, the state government also earmarked an amount of Rs 2 crore for creation of a corpus fund for GBs in the state. The proposed Corpus Fund would come as great relieve for 8000 odd GBs.

Mentioned may be made that the GBs are considered as the guardian of the Naga traditional institution who uphold and preserves the rich Naga traditional institutions.

Additional Chief Secretary and Commissioner and also the Commandant General of Village Guard, T N Mannen had recently revealed both the creation of insurance coverage for VGs and also the creation of corpus fund for GBs during his tour in different parts of the state.

The fund for creation of the Corpus Fund for GBs had been sanctioned already but is awaiting the final lists of genuine GBs throughout the state, he also informed
