“As disclosed by the honorable Home Minister, Nagaland, two culprits are now under police custody. It is also learnt from reliable source that the third accused has eluded arrest at Beisumpuikam and has likely gone back to Manipur,” stated president of the WSYF KK Zhimomi and general secretary M Chishi. The organization said it would furnish “physical and material proofs and evidences” to the concerned authorities in this regard.
The organization also demanded that the government direct the district administration to dismantle the “war gates” at Beisumpuikam village. The gates have been built with bamboo spikes, trenches and “bunker” dug around the gates, the WSYF said. People who pass through the gate are stopped and “harassed by miscreants” from Beisumpuikam village, the WSYF claimed.
Meanwhile in a separate press ntoe the Naga United Village, Intanki has appealed to the government to be sincere in its assurance to remove the war gates at Beisumpuikam village at the earliest time possible.
A press note issued by Sazo Zumvu, Chairman and C. Pili Pochury Secretary pointed out that there had been clarification that the so-called war gates is village gates which have been erected as part of Naga custom and tradition. “However any traditional and normal Naga village gate don’t not have bamboo spikes fixed to the gates and also with bunkers/defence lines like the ‘welcome’ gates of Beisumpuikam village. Picture published in local dailies is evident to it”, stated the press note.
While stating that for not fortunately, people passing through Beisumpuikam village are being escorted by IRB personnel from one end to other end of Beisumpuikam village but how long will the IRB remain in the area to protect the innocent people, it stated adding that without the protection from IRB personnel innocent villagers will not be able to pass through Beisumpuikam village.
“Therefore in the interest of Naga people living in Naga United Village, Intanki the village council urges the government to remove the said gates”.
