Dimapur, June 23 (MExN): The Naga United Village Council (NUVC) has issued a press note pointing out that it will “appreciate the non-partial step taken by the Government of Nagaland to protect the Intangki reserved forest” and assured its co-operation to the Government of Nagaland on the condition that the Beisumpuikam Village is evicted. The NUVC stated that it appreciated the state forest department’s “impartial and detail report on the status of encroachment by both the Naga United Village and Beisumpuikam village on dated 20th June 2009 in the consultative meeting headed by the Chief Minister, opposition CLP leader, NGO’s and tribal bodies”.
The press note issued by Tokugha Sumi, secretary of Naga United Village Council, (Intangki) Nagaland on behalf of the Naga United Village Intangki pointed out that the members of the August House in the Zonal Hall Kohima fully supported the declaration of the brief history on encroachment, quote “ Status report on Intangki National Park as on 20.06.2009” by the Nagaland Forest Department, which declared, ‘the first encroachment started in 1984 by so called Beisumpuikam by constructing few huts on the bank of Misapdisa Nala……’.
“The Forest Department did not accept the initiatives taken by the vested interest individuals, including the then Minister Bangdilheilung that inaugurated the unauthorized village on 04.01.1992 without the cabinet approval and therefore issued the eviction order fixed on 5th October 2007,” stated the press note. The press note stated that in continuation of this line of thinking, the Nagaland Forest Department laid down the suggestion on the floor that suggested ‘Eviction cannot be carried out partially and therefore Government may issue clear directives with regard to Beisumpuikam’.
The press note stated that in case the Government of Nagaland overlook the Nagaland Forest Department that declared “status report on Intangki National Park as on 20.06.2009”, and carry out the partial eviction, leaving Beisumpuikam village “than the matter will be different thereby question of co-operation to Nagaland Government order shall not remain”. Therefore, the NUVC suggested that “instead of creating problems, both the BeisumpuikamVillage and Naga United Village may be allowed to establish their village by allotting them certain areas of forest land or evict both encroached villages”.
