INTCWS cautions against free educational schemes

Dimapur, April 19 (MExN): The India Northeast Tribal Community Welfare Society (INTCWS) today advised parents and students to take diligence due before going for “free education schemes, scholarships, or fee concession” offered by different institutions outside the state.

It is an observation based on recent experiences of students returning home mid-way their courses bringing untold hardships to both students and parents, said INTCWS in a press note from its Chairman Atsei Sekhose.

“It cannot be denied that most of our north eastern states are vulnerable and so many colleges and agents are targeting our gullible people along with local people,” it said adding that even children of well-educated parents are also victims of these admission frauds.

Just like many fraud online and other schemes which have come to Nagaland, there are many such cases in admission outside the state for professional courses which is misused by some colleges, agencies, organizations with the help of local people, by cheating and destroying the career of students continuously for the last few years in the name of helping tribal students, it added.

While noting that most students must have taken college forms or appeared entrance exams etc, many are still in confusion. “Those students clearing entrance exams get colleges through merit or counseling, but rest will have to be diligent to find their way to good colleges.”

In this regard, INTCWS maintained that time and again, it has been creating awareness about finding good colleges for welfare of students.

While visiting many colleges we have found out that some colleges with good infrastructure are on the verge of closing down due to lack of students, while others lack facilities like libraries, labs, hostels, qualified faculties etc, it said.

The students are also asked to remain cautious as some of such colleges come from outside the state for admission purpose.

“To admit students in their colleges, they try to link with some student bodies, schools, colleges, ministries, state govt departments, reputed organizations by offering hefty commission per students… Their sole purpose is to get students in the name of helping tribal students.”

Good institution get their seats filled without any publicity and does not offer free schemes/scholarships/fee concession as they stand on their own reputation, the Society pointed out.

“Students are advised not to be taken in by attractive advertisements but to understand its contents.”

Meanwhile, for those aspiring for MBBS & BDS seats, INTCWS categorically stated that there is “no direct admission anymore.”

Admission will be made only by passing “NEET exam" and both students and parents are advised not to make any advance payment in seat booking or reservation to colleges or agencies, it cautioned.

After qualifying NEET, there will be plenty of seats available and some tips to find good colleges includes: Checking recognition or affiliation status; courses affiliation; faculties; and libraries and labs etc.

INTCWS also claimed that it possess vast personal experiences in education and field survey of colleges outside the state. “We have visited more than 301 universities/colleges/schools across India and create free awareness and counseling for welfare of tribal students community undergoing professional courses outside the state since 2008” it added.

In this connection, the Society said one can visit its office in Nuton Basti, Dimapur or contact 9612160086 for any queries.
