Integration through Education

The Integrated Forum, Ukhrul

‘Education is the vaccine to all violence’ so said James Olmos, an American thinker.

There has been much hype about integration of all Naga tribes spread over various areas of the North-East India and beyond. There are no doubts several factors barring the path towards achieving integration.

We would however keep the problems – geographical, political and etc to be sorted out by and by. What we wish to present is an idea both feasible in theory and in practice to bring integration a step closer to reality.

It is a foregone conclusion that the education system in Manipur state has gone to dogs. Except for setting a very high standard question paper, there is no value and ethic based teaching. Except for covering the syllabus’ and being busy with tuitions there’s hardly any time to educate the students. Look around and think again. What’s wrong with the attitude, personality and skills of our children today?

One may be brilliant, achieving high percentage in exams but that doesn’t necessarily mean that the child is smart. Educationally half baked, frauds, obscurantist, downright morons etc are given the right to enter the hallowed portals of institutions of knowledge. Watch out how far the education departments ‘screening’ process will go. How did all this stupid and absurd circumstances come to be? Well the blame game is on –

With the above unfortunate background we bring forth our vision to save the education future and the future of our physical existence by means of all the possible educational institutions of Naga inhabited area in Manipur and elsewhere to affiliate with the Nagaland Board of Education in Kohima, Nagaland.

With due respect to all section/faction/organization etc of Nagas who relentlessly discriminate, criticize and try to wish away the sincere and truthful efforts of the general Naga public – the aspiration for oneness can never be done away with.

Today with the facilities of computer, internet or online available what we require is establishing of not less than two Hqs possibly in Senapati and Ukhrul which is most convenient  for both communication and transportation.

The hundreds of private schools in the four Hill District in Manipur will need to contribute in all possible ways along with the public just for once to take off with this project. Once the infrastructure is established, there is bound to be personnel exchanged program across the present geographical boundaries. What more there could be also students exchange program based on merit scholarship or but meritorious students exchange program, excursion, study tours, cultural program etc.

Let us think positively follow our vision for a better Naga future. Let there be a healthy competition educationally among all Naga youths. Why be satisfied with just been literate? Why just end up envying other people and nation? We have the potentiality, now; why not realize it in reality? Are we so selfish, petty minded and rooted in absurdity that we wipe out our own future?

Beware, if we do not start Now, independence or a Naga nation will be (if at all) possible only after about 150 years, i.e. 50 years more to reform our society, next 50 to educate ourselves and the last 50 years to establish ourselves for nationhood.

The present economic blockade is just the tip of an ‘imbroglio’ ice berg. Many more is on the way and therefore it’s a high time to START taking the first concrete step towards Naga integration.
