Dimapur, October 9 (MExN): The Department of Health and Family Welfare today launched ‘Intensified Mission Indradhanush’ campaign with the objective of providing vaccines for children below 2 years of age and pregnant women who have missed out routine vaccination.
Nagaland Health and Family Welfare Minister Imkong L Imchen officially launched IMI in the state by administering immunisation drops to toddlers at a health centre in Kohima.
Several such programmes were held across the state. In Tuensang, the launching programme was held in Urban Health Centre (UHC). Deputy Commissioner, Tuensang, Jamithung Lotha, (NCS) launched the programme by administering the first drops polio of IMI in the presence of Dr. T Pangjung Sangtam CMO, Dr.Temsu Longchar, Dy CMO, partners from UNDP Egumsing Nsarangbe, Miss. Awala and other medical staff.
The CMO informed in a press release that all the eight blocks and 56 health units will work to achieve 90 percent of immunisation coverage by December 2018.
In Wokha, the IMI will continue till October 16 in all eleven colonies in Wokha urban areas, six villages in Sanis block, and 12 villages in Bhandari block.
At its launching today, Pairson UNICEF consultant visited session sites at the urban areas on the first day along with Soren CDPO, from the Social Welfare Department Wokha, Dr. Tumchobeni Dy. CMO, Matsung DPM (NHM), Viroko Thapo BPM (Wokah Sadar) and Mhonbeni Ezung Media Officer (NHM).
In order to effectively, make the programme a success, health personnel with support from the Anganwadi workers and helpers will be carrying out house to house visit to find out the drop outs, left outs children and families resisting to take vaccines from the seven preventable diseases.
The Intensified Mission Indradhanush activity will be conducted from 9-16 of every month and it will continue for four months till January 2018.
