Zunheboto, September 26 (MExN): In a bid to raise awareness on violence against women and children and its impact, the Sakhi-One Stop Centre, Zunheboto has been carrying out intensive awareness programme throughout the year, in all the blocks under Zunheboto District. In this context, the OSC Zunheboto conducted sensitization programme on ‘violence against women & children’ consecutively at Atoizu Block, Akuhaito Block, V.K Block, Satoi Block, Saptiqa Block and Satakha Block under Zunheboto.
A DIPR report stated that the programme was attended by important dignitaries, departments and associations viz. Police Department, Medical Department, Student’s Union, Students, GBs & DBs, Sumi Totimi Hoho, Community leaders and elders, church leaders, civil society and concerned individuals. The ADC, EAC and SDO(C) in the concerned jurisdiction also took part in the programme.
While addressing the gathering, Alovini Yeptho Centre Administrator OSC Zunheboto gave a brief introduction on the functioning of OSC, the range of services provided and the importance of Women Helpline 181 for aggrieved women. She elaborated on Prohibition of Child Marriage Act, 2006; and underscore that child marriage is one of the root causes of Domestic Violence. She further covered aspects viz. Cyber Crime; Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2015.
Other important aspects viz. Child Rights; Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection) Act, 2015; and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012 were covered by Helito Chophi Case Worker OSC Zunheboto. In the feedback session, suggestive measures to effectively cater to aggrieved women and children were appraised by the attendees of the programme.
