The 26th Edition of Inter-District and State Championship hosted by Mokokchung District Table Tennis Association (MDTTA) under the aegis of Nagaland Table Tennis Association (NTTA) got underway at the Multi-Purpose Sports complex, Mokokchung October 23.

A total of 118 players from 14 Districts are participating in the championship in both the team event and the open category. 

The opening ceremony was graced by Imkong L Imchen, Advisor, Information and Public Relation & Water Conservation, Government of Nagaland, as the Chief Patron. 

In his speech, he stated that Nagas have many potential that needs to be harnessed. 

Focusing attention on the game of Table Tennis (TT), Imchen stated that as Mongolians, our physical stature is naturally short or weaker physically but skills require no physical stature said Imchen. With Skills and consistent practice one has the potential to compete in any sport, he added. 

NTTA President Vitho Neikha unveiled the association’s ‘Coffee Table Book’ during the inaugural ceremony and he also explained why it was published.

He claimed that the NTTA was founded in 1972 and that its Silver Jubilee was celebrated in Kohima last year.

Citing the difficulties they had in keeping the records, Neikha said that book was published to preserve records that may be referred to in the future. 

Meanwhile, in his reception address, MDTTA President Ali Walling welcomed all representing districts and thanked the NTTA for trusting the district association to host the 26th edition of the championship.

Students of Fazl Ali College, Jubilee Memorial College and Eden Academy participated in the opening act while, Tiasola Ozükum presented a song.
