Pungro, October 8 (MExN): The Inter-School Sports Meet 2025, organised by the Pungro Sports Association (PSA), was inaugurated at the Public Ground, Pungro Town on October 8 under the theme “From School to Sports Star: Nurturing Young Talents, Building Bright Future.”
A total of 3711 students from various schools across Pungro participated in the inaugural programme.
M Lamthiu, Member of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly from 57 Thonoknyu A/C and General Secretary of the Nagaland Football Association, graced the event as the special guest. In his address, Lamthiu highlighted that sports have evolved from being a hobby to a growing career industry with vast opportunities
The Chairman of the Governing Body of the Nagaland Super League, and Executive Member of the North East Football Development Committee further encouraged students to remain focused and disciplined while balancing sports with education.

Acknowledging the sporting potential of the Pungro area, he called upon the community to nurture and support young talents. He also commended Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio for his continued commitment to promoting sports and athletes across the State.
Earlier, PSA President Kinan delivered the welcome address, extending greetings to the special guest, dignitaries, and participants.
He stated that the Association has consistently sought to promote discipline, unity, and sportsmanship among the youth through such initiatives.
The programme began with an invocation prayer by Pastor Tsuyihba of the Pungro Town Baptist Church.
In his vote of thanks, PSA General Secretary Throngso Yimchunger expressed gratitude to the special guest for his support towards sports development in the Khiamniungan region and the State.
He also thanked all contributors, including participants, the organising committee, security and medical teams, and well-wishers for their cooperation in ensuring the smooth conduct of the event.
The opening ceremony concluded with an oath-taking and the official declaration of the sports meet open.
Parents, teachers, guardians, and members of several civil society organisations attended the inaugural.
