The 3rd Inter School U-16 Cricket Tournament 2018 organised by Kohima District Cricket Association commenced here today at Kohima Local Ground.
Three schools – Chandmari Higher Secondary School, Chandmari Government School and Baptist High are participating in the tournament which is being played on league format.
The best two teams will play the final.
Inaugurating the tourney as the chief guest, Hyunilo Khing, member of Cricket Development Committee under Nagaland Cricket Association said that now sports is not only a hobby for individuals but is a multi million industry if taken up professionally.
He encouraged the young cricketers to focus on goal as there is no backdoor to achieve success except hard work and dedication to progress in sports.
He also hoped that in the near future Nagaland will be able to host Ranji trophy match in Sovima Cricket ground and expose the potential of the young cricketers of the State.
Compered by Assistant General Secretary of KDCA John Thakuri the programme commenced with invocation by Pastor of Peraciezie Baptist Church, Kevichalie Metha. Welcome address was delivered by KDCA president Atha C Angami. Special song was presented by Siedzevino Mor while Along Longkumer administered oath to the teams.
Meanwhile, playing the inaugural match, Chandmari HSS defeated Baptist High by 94 runs.
Electing to bat, Chandmari HSS set a huge target of 215 runs losing 5 wickets in 20 overs. Azad Hussain and Diyam remained not out at 109 and 25 runs. Baptist High bowler Thejovie claimed two rival wickets. Chasing the huge tally, Baptist High were all out scoring 120 runs with Kethovizo scoring 38 runs. Azad of Chandmari HSS claimed three rival wickets and was adjudged man of the match.
In Dimapur, Ramjanki HSS defeated Millenniel Vision School by 43 runs. Another match played in Dimapur saw Delhi Public School defeating MGM HSS by 5 wickets.
Meanwhile two matches were also played in Phek. The first match saw Royal Foundation School defeating Kids Corner by 50 runs, while in the second match Bishop Abraham School defeated GHSS by 9 wickets.
