Inter-Ward sanitation drive competition held in Kiphire

Kiphire, April 27 (MExN): For observance of World Malaria Day celebrated globally every year on April 25, under the aegis of Directorate of Health & Family Welfare, District Health Society Kiphire conducted an inter-ward sanitation drive in the district headquarter to promote malaria free environment.   A press release stated that a brief programme was organized at the DC Conference Hall, Kiphire to commemorate the day. Dr. Tinurenla Anichari (Dy. CMO) who chaired the programme said, "Let us not think about it as a competition or a seasonal activity, but as a contribution and a collective effort to combat the disease. We should do our part to eliminate malaria by keeping our surroundings clean."

Dr. H Kumar (DVBO, NVBDCP) delivered the key note address and encouraged that sanitation drives should be taken up at least once a month. He spoke on the various diseases caused by mosquitoes and that one should visit the nearest health unit as soon as there is detection of any kind of illness and not delay any treatment.   As a guest speaker, Dr. Tinojungshi Chang (ADC Kiphire) lauded everyone's support and participation in the programme. He spoke on the importance of taking up responsibility of keeping one's own surrounding clean and stressed that such transformation would result in a healthy neighbourhood and promote healthy civic sense. He requested all the ward chairman and community leaders to act as educators to the community to impart knowledge on sanitation drives as sustainable programmes, and spread awareness as public awareness was the key to a healthy society. He appealed that every community initiate such activities and not wait for programmes to be conducted.   Headed by the ward chairmen, a total of 11 wards took part in the competition where Medical Ward, High School Ward and DC Ward secured first, second and third respectively.
