Interest free loan for women entrepreneurs

The Department of Women Resource Development is implementing three categories of interest-free loan programmes for women entrepreneurs in the state.  

It includes Promotion of Women in Innovative Enterprises (PWIEP), Women Entrepreneurial Development Initiatives (WEDI), and Micro Enterprise Development Schemes (MEDS).  

While all three categories of the loan schemes are interest free and revolving in nature, PWIEP targets upcoming innovative women entrepreneurs who want to start a new enterprise or is in need of fund to further expand and develop their existing enterprise.  

An amount ranging from Rs. 2.50 lakh to Rs. 5 lakh is provided to each selected entrepreneur.  

So far, 74 women have been covered under this programme and the repayment of loan is close to 75%, according to the annual administrative report 2017-18 of Women Resource Development tabled at the 1st session of the 13th Nagaland Legislative Assembly here Friday.  

WEDI programme primarily targets women entrepreneurs from the rural areas. An amount of Rs. 1 lakh per beneficiary is provided after the selection process has been completed by the District Women Development Programme Monitoring Committee which is headed by the Deputy Commissioner and with representatives of the partner NGOs as members.  

The repayment of loans by the beneficiaries is close to 100%.   MEDS programme targets destitute women to enable them start a micro-enterprise, be it a small shop, door-to door sales, vendor-ship etc. An amount ranging from Rs. 10,000 to Rs. 20,000 is provided to each beneficiary according to their needs.
