Wokha, October 21 (MExN): Peace Channel organized an interfaith meet on peace building in Wokha at Wokha Town Baptist Church in collaboration with Wokha Town Pastor Fellowship (WTPF) on October 20 under the theme, “Transformed to transform the Society.”

Suraj Kumar (PRO), 28 Assam Rifles in his message shared about the power of prayer for peace.

He shared about his life experiences of how their prayer and fasting declined suicidal cases in his neighbourhood.

Tumben P Tsanglao EAC, Wokha, while stating the regards from Deputy Commissioner encouraged the stakeholders to reach out to all individuals, respect and understand everybody for a peaceful and harmonious living.

No religion teaches hatred but it comes from what we perceived, so peace should come from within and strive for excellence. It is a collaborative effort and ever evolving, he added.

Liangamang Robert, Peace Activist, was the resource person for the programme. He brought three aspects of understanding conflict towards building peace; Conflict, Violence and Peace.

The resource person stressed that conflict is a part of life and pointed out that it conflict that has made communities what they are today.

He, however, added that high levels of violence and crime are often the symptoms of underlying social, economic and political challenges such as social inequality, rapid urbanization, poverty, unemployment and institutional shortcomings.

Although violence is often seen and responded to as an inevitable part of the human condition, such assumptions are shifting, focus is broadening, and an increased emphasis is being placed on prevention of violent behavior and consequences, he added.

Reverend S. Thungrio Khuvung Asso. Pastor WTBC invoked God’s blessing which was followed by welcome address from Mr. Vincent Kikon District Coordinator, Peace Channel, Wokha.

Arhomo C Ngullie, Coordinator, Peace Channel while delivering the keynote speech encouraged the participants to work together for peace and tranquility in the society.

Kikon in his welcome note conveyed the benefit of living in peaceful co-existence without any differences on the ground of caste, tribe, class, region or religion.

In this regard he proposed that every year this kind of open platform has to be provided with an inclusive approach towards a peaceful society.

He added that the recurrence of violence in our society is a clarion call for all of us to do more to build and consolidate peace.

The programme was chaired by Khonbemo P. Kikon Chairman, WTPF.
