Internal rivalry in NSCN-K (YA) leads to another armed clash

NSO, ENSA denounce firing, warns of non-cooperation

DIMAPUR, JUNE 13 (MExN): With infighting between warring members of the NSCN-K (Yung Aung) leading to another armed confrontation on June 13, the Naga Students’ Organization and the Eastern Naga Students' Association has warned of non-cooperation if their appeal for restraint is not heeded.

In a joint statement, the two students’ body stated that despite repeated pleas and initiative for peace and reconciliation taken up by the civil societies and churches between the CHQ and GHQ members of the Yung Aung led NSCN-K, another exchange of firing took place in the wee hours of June 13 at Chen Loiye village between 5-6 AM.  This is the second clash after the June 5 armed confrontation which took place between Chuisu and Nyanching village in Myanmar.

Stating that the Naga people had enough of factional war, killing among brothers rather than uniting to flight a common enemy, the students’ body condemned the recent firing incident within village jurisdiction which made the innocent villagers flee their homes. It also stated that the Naga people will not consider life lost in today’s internal crisis as a sacrifice made for the Naga National cause.

Considering the prevailing situation, the two students’ body has laid down its stand- that it strongly stands by one government, one tax; will not allow partition or formation of new Naga army in Eastern Nagaland, Myanmar, will not tolerate factional clashes/firing within public jurisdiction or harassment to innocent public life as a result of factional/internal crisis of the NSCN –K (YA). It also said no Naga army recruitment will be allowed during such time of internal crisis.

Failure to abide by the interest of the Naga people as highlighted, the students’ body said it would be compelled to impose non-cooperation and withdrawal of all communication, physical and moral support to the NSCN-K (YA), the joint statement stated.
