District Health Society, Mon celebrated International AIDS Candlelight Memorial at conference hall, District Hospital, Mon on May 19.

MON, MAY 19 (MExN): In remembering those who have died of AIDS and honouring the people who have dedicated their lives to helping those living with and affected with HIV, District Health Society, Mon celebrated International AIDS Candlelight Memorial on May 19 at conference hall, District Hospital, Mon.
The event was organized with the theme “Together we remember, together we heal, through love and solidarity” by DAPCU, Shansham, Mon Users Network, FI-ARTC, OST centre, Vihaan and AHANA org, supported by Nagaland State AIDS Control Society.

Dr Imnapokim, CMO Mon, who was a guest speaker, thanked and appreciated the organisers for celebrating the event in the district. He said the event is a community mobilisation campaign to raise social consciousness about HIV/AIDS. It is not only the department or the organization but every individual’s duty tocreate awareness, he stated.
He also mentioned that it has been more than 40 years with no specific medicine to cure HIV/AIDS, adding, “let us light this candle with the hope that one day medicine will be discovered to cure the disease and let us also light the candle to show our love and support and hope that there is no discrimination and stigmatization against infected ones in our society.”
Longyim Tzudir, DPO DAPCU Mon briefed on the district HIV & AIDS scenario and a short speech was delivered by Y Pongba K, President, All Wards Union Mon Town.
The programme was chaired by Stephen, Programme Manager, Shansham Org. Mon; invocation by YP David K, DH Chaplain; special song by OST Centre, DH. Candlelight vigil was led Ngamyoh K and the benediction was pronounced by Vijay Thapa, Pastor, Gorkha Baptist Church Mon.
