DIMAPUR, DECEMBER 6 (MExN): Nagaland University’s School of Engineering and Technology (SET), in collaboration with Tetso College, Dimapur, is hosting the international conference on "Biologically Inspired Techniques in Many-Criteria Decision-Making (BITMDM 2024)" from December 6-7. The conference, being held in a hybrid format, aims to provide a platform for global experts, researchers, and practitioners to delve into advancements in biologically inspired techniques and their application in addressing the complexities of multilateral decision-making.

A press release issued by PRO, Nagaland University, informed that the inaugural ceremony took place at Lorin Hall, Tetso College, on December 6, under the theme "Advances in Multidisciplinary Research and Innovation." Prof Prabhakar Sharma, a member of the organizing committee from Nagaland University, presided over the event. Prof Sujata Dash, Programme Chair of BITMDM 2024, delivered the welcome and introductory address. She emphasized that the conference would cover ten technical sessions across six distinct tracks, focusing on the intersection of biologically inspired techniques and data analytics in decision-making.

In his keynote address, Prof A. Elayaperumal, Director of NIT, Nagaland, highlighted the profound connection between biological principles and technological innovations. He underscored the importance of education and research in driving economic and social progress. Drawing attention to the role of innovation in economic growth, Prof Elayaperumal called for continued investment in research and development (R&D), especially in biosciences and biotechnology, to foster novel medicines and healthcare solutions. He pointed out the vast untapped resources in Northeast India, including medicinal plants, which could contribute to both economic development and social welfare, especially in public health.

Chief guest, Prof JK Patnaik, Vice Chancellor of Nagaland University, joined the ceremony online and stressed the contemporary relevance of the conference theme. He discussed the role of technology, especially artificial intelligence (AI), in governance, international relations, and the wider societal impact. Prof Patnaik posed a reflective question: “Are we happier than our ancestors?” as he noted that the rapid advancements in AI bring both opportunities and challenges that require innovative solutions.

The conference was formally declared open by Prof VK Vidyarthi, Dean of SET, Nagaland University. The ceremony concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Er Shanchamo Yanthan, Assistant Professor in the Department of IT at Nagaland University and Co-Chair of the inaugural ceremony. The event was reported by Imsuenla Tzudir, Assistant Professor in the Department of Economics at Tetso College, Chümoukedima.
