Kohima, October 11 (MExN): Celebrating the International Day of Girl Child, a self-defence class under Beti Bachao Beti Badhao was launched with a theme ‘Invest in Girls’ Rights: our leadership, our well-being’ at Rüzhükhrie Govt Hr Secondary School, Kohima on October 11.
Speaking at the launching programme, the Deputy Commissioner Kohima, Shanavas C said that this initiative is being organised across the country by giving importance to a girl child’s life. As per the DIPR report, Shanavas said, “Nagaland is one of the safest states compared to other states where the girl fetus are killed or aborted and a girl child’s or a woman’s life are put at risk.”
He said that this campaign is being organised to spread the message that a girl child’s life is no less than her male counterpart. The DC also said that to protect oneself, one cannot learn by overnight but with dedication for months and years of training. He urged the students to be more optimistic and give their best efforts and stay consistent in training to become more flexible and skilled in self defence techniques.
He encouraged the students to overcome the thoughts of giving up but to have strong determination and be confident to take care of oneself and challenged the students that he see them protecting themselves and leaving inspiration for the upcoming generation in the near future.
Giving the welcome address, Lebu Krose, Principal, Zükhükhrie GHSS expressed hope that the initiative will go a long way in boosting up the girl students confidence and security by knowing their rights and protecting themselves from social adversaries. Thechano, Teacher Rüzhükhrie GHSS invoked God’s blessings and Moasunep K Jingru, EAC & Nodal Officer, Mission Shakti, Kohima while chairing the programme gave a brief introduction of the campaign.
The programme was organised by Kohima District Administration in collaboration with Performing Art with Fitness (PAWF) and District Hub for Empowerment of Women, Kohima. The team of expert led by its Managing Director, Tainla Temjen from PAWF launched the self-defence class. Officials from Dr N Kire Hr Secondary School, Seikhazuo, Kohima were also part of the programme.
