International day of Yoga celebrated in Nagaland

Kohima | June 21 

Joining the rest of the world, the Department of Youth Resources & Sports and Tourism department today observed 10th International Day of Yoga by organizing separate programme at Indira Gandhi Stadium, Kohima and The Naga Heritage Village Kisama respectively.

In both programmes, Dr. Seyiekhrietuo John, State Nodal Officer, National AYUSH Mission, Directorate of Health & Family Welfare, Nagaland, highlighted the importance and health benefits of Yoga.

Researchers have discovered that the regular practice of yoga may produce many health benefits, including increased cardiovascular fitness, improved muscular strength and normalisation of blood pressure.

Stating that Yoga practice is not just a physical practice, Dr. John said “It is a mental, spiritual and everything comes together.”
“We have to be physically, spiritually, socially and mentally-healthy,” he said.

Through Yoga and meditation, he said, we can have peace within and when we have peace within we can give to others.
This is the benefit of Yoga, he said.

Dr. John told The Morung Express that various departments and institutions across the state observed International Day of Yoga under the theme “Yoga for Self and Society” this year.

At Kisama, Nagaland’s tourism director Veyielo Duolo along with the officials and staff joined Yoga practice.

In Indira Gandhi Stadium Kohima, it was participated by the officials and staff of youth resources & sports department along with officials and volunteers of Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan, Kohima.

AYUSH Mission Yoga instructors Razouvotuo and Kelhouzasie Lawrence assisted Yoga practice at Kisama and Indira Gandhi Stadium Kohima respectively.

Meanwhile, across the state, numerous institutions and organizations also held events to mark the day on June 21.
