Peren, October 3 (DIPR): A programme on International Day of Older Person was held at Gaon Bura hall, Peren on October 1. The Programme was organized by the Social welfare Department, Peren with ADC, Peren, S.Tainu as the Chief Guest.
Tainu speaking at the programme, appealed to the senior citizens to take care of their health by maintaining good diet. She further appealed the elderly to share their experiences and wisdom with the younger generation.
Dr. Hedungkiebe spoke on the topic ‘good health maintenance for elderly persons.’ DPO, Nokcharenla Longchar chaired the programme. Anganwadi workers presented a special song, while Pastor, PTBC, Haiku Nzasaid the invocation prayer. Isambe Liegise and Igongle Ndang were awarded Oldest Person Certificate during the program. Altogether seventy senior citizens attended the programme.
Zunheboto: The 10thInternational Day of Older Persons was observed at Youth Hall, Zunheboto on October 1. Executive Engineer, PHE, Zunheboto, Er. Kitoshe Aye graced the occasion as chief guest.
The chief guest speaking at the programme said the contributions made by older persons in our society are immense and legendary. He exhorted the gathering to honour the elderly people as they are an asset to the society, further adding that behind every success there is always an experienced and elderly person.
CDPO, Zunheboto, HovisheSema spoke on the relationship between older and the younger generation, while Easter spoke on the legal rights of senior citizens. DWO, Zunheboto, AtulaKikon also delivered a short speech in the programme. Pastor, ZTSBC said the invocation prayer. The program was organized by NSCFZDU, in collaboration with ZDLSA and Social Welfare Department.
YeviheChishi and LoholiZhimo were honored with the best District Senior Citizens Award. Meluri: International Day of Older Person was observed on October 1 at Meluri Village Council Hall, Meluri under Phek. The programme was organized by Department Social Welfare in collaboration with Phek District Senior Citizen Association, under the theme “Stepping into the Future: tapping the talents, contribution and participation of older persons in the Society”.
Speaking at the programme, President, PDSCA, Shesuyi Veseen couraged the older persons to remain truthful to their words and to boldly speak the truths. Challenging the older persons to contribute something good to the society, he also appealed for availing of schemes and concessions like medical check-ups, travelling, including approaching the Legal Service Authority for legal assistance. He further requested the senior citizen to register their name with the association and be active member.
Additional Secretary, Social Welfare, Nyusetho Nyuthe expressed gratitude to the department and PDSCA Officer Bearers for organizing the programme maintaining that the event was the first of its kind in the sub-division. He apprised of the importance of the day and including the Old Age Pension scheme available under the social Welfare Department.
ZekhasoNgouri of Meluri village and Lemathsu Nyuwi of Meluri Town were awarded the best Senior Citizen Award. Secretary, PDSCA, Vekhapu Rhakho chaired the programme while Sr. Pastor T.Kajusie of Meluri Village Baptist Church, said the invocation prayer. Welfare Inspector, DWO, Phek, Purhutho Ngouri presented the introductory remark. Nukuyi Tunyi pronounced the benediction prayer.
