International Day of Yoga celebrated across Nagaland

  Kohima, June 21 (MExN): Nagaland today celebrated the 4th International Day of Yoga by organising various events across the state. Government departments, security forces, educational institutions and other organisations commemorated the day. The state level 4th International Day of Yoga organised by the Department of Youth Resources & Sports organised was held at Indira Gandhi Stadium, Kohima on June 21.   Governor, PB Acharya, Union Minister of State for Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution and Commerce & Industry, CR. Chaudhary; Deputy Chief Minister, Y. Patton and a host of dignitaries along with students and paramilitary personnel performed Yoga to observe the Day.   More than one thousand participants performed the five Yoga Structures: prayer, loosening exercises, yoga asanas (postures), pranayama, oath taking and peace prayer during the programme.   Raj Bhavan: International Yoga Day, led by the Governor of Nagaland, PB Acharya and his wife Kavita Acharya, was observed at Durbar Hall, Raj Bhavan Kohima with students from Nagaland University, ICFAI University, Global Open University, St. Joseph University, members of Rajya Sainik Board and Red Cross, Bharat Scouts & Guides, NEZCC and Officer and Staff of Raj Bhavan Kohima.   Governor Acharya stated that Yoga is an invaluable gift of India’s tradition. It is a preventive and curative science which does not have any side effects to the body he added. Yoga started in India and now it is practiced all over the world for the benefit it provides, he stated.   Principal Secretary to Governor, Piyush Goyal, while delivering the welcome address stated that Yoga is a holistic way of living where the body, mind and spirit is in tune in harmony with nature. He encouraged all to try and make Yoga a part of everyday life so as to reap maximum benefit.   PRO to Governor in a press release mentioned that the Yoga session was conducted by Orentsani Kikon, the first certified Naga Yoga instructor. She has won the National Yoga Championship 2017. She has also previously taught Yoga to the Indian Army in Delhi, Rajasthan and Nagaland. She currently runs a fitness studio in Dimapur promoting Yoga and healthy lifestyle.   Assam Rifles: To spread awareness on yoga as part of life to maintain health and fitness, Headquarters Inspector General Assam Rifles (North) conducted multitude of events across Nagaland as part of Yoga Fest in commemoration of the fourth International Day of Yoga.   Chieswema battalion on June 19-20 conducted various events based on ‘Yoga to Stay Fit Stay Healthy’ at battalion headquarters as well as at all company operating bases. Battalion headquarters and Zeizou Company conducted discussion and discourses on yoga at Tsiesema Basa village and Zhadima respectively. Quiz and poster competitions were organized at Government Primary School, Upper Khomi village and Kidzee School of Kezo Basa village by Chizami Company and Chakabama Company respectively. Chieswema Garrison meanwhile conducted educational classes for students of Assam Rifles Primary School, while Pfutsero Company conducted introductory yoga classes for villagers of Pfutsero.   Kiphire battalion organised a Yoga Fest at Battalion Headquarter Kiphire and all company operating bases in Longmatre, Akhegwo, Pungro and Anutongre on June 19-20. Various kinds of yoga postures were practiced. Also, troops were educated on natural benefits of yoga and its important role in helping individual cope with stress, the release stated.   Kohima battalion held introductory classes on yoga at battalion headquarters on June 19 and a lecture cum demonstration for students of Assam Rifles Public School, Kohima on June 20. The lecture cum demonstration included history of yoga, benefits of yoga, breathing exercises and guided meditation. The event was enriched with basics of healthy living and yoga postures.   Phek battalion conducted introductory yoga classes in Phek on June 19 and poster making, quiz competition on ‘Stay Fit – Stay Healthy through Yoga’ at Battalion Headquarter, Phek on June 20. A total of 43 school children from Assam Rifles Public School, Phek and the local schools displayed their creativity and showcased their knowledge on how yoga is beneficial for a healthy lifestyle, according to the press release.   Wokha battalion conducted Yoga Fest on June 19 and 20. Discussion on yoga was organized in surrounding villages, while lecture on advantage of yoga was held at Battalion headquarters on June 19. Company Operating Bases of the unit also observed Yoga Fest to promote the advantages of yoga and introductory yoga classes at Assam Rifles Public School, Wokha on June 20. A poster competition was also organized at the school.  
Students and staff of Dimapur Government College (DGC) participate in the International Yoga Day held on June 21. Pudezono, Assistant Professor shared the concept of International Yoga Day while DGC, Principal, Kavili Jakhalu welcomed the resource persons from Patanjali Yog Samiti and Bharat Swabhiman. Yoga Mahila, President, Rita Singh spoke on the importance of yoga followed by demonstration of different yoga exercises starting with the Surya Namaskar or Sun Salutation. Various Asanas were demonstrated.
  In Dimapur, an event was organised at Rangapahar Military Station, Dimapur with over 500 participants including officers, soldiers as well as their families located at the military station. Lieutenant General Gopal R, AVSM, SM, General Officer Commanding, Spear Corps, graced the event and motivated Yoga enthusiasts of the Corps. More than 10,000 individuals from Spear Corps participated in the event at their respective locations in the Corps Zone.   BSF: 111 Battalion BSF observed Yoga Day at BN HQ Satakha under the supervision of Sanjeev Sharma, Commandant 111 BN BSF. Troops present at the BN HQ as well as all CI Posts participated in the event at their place of deployment. Approximate 205 civil personnel including School children of Satakha Town and Ex-Servicemen also took part in the event. In addition, 25 personnel of the unit attended the mass yoga programme organized by State Government at IG stadium Kohima.
