
Dimapur, June 21 (MExN): International Day of Yoga was celebrated in different places of Nagaland on June 21. The day aims to raise awareness worldwide of the many benefits of practicing yoga.
NCC girl cadets: Under the aegis of NCC Group HQ Kohima, 4000 girl cadets of 1 Nagaland (G) Bn NCC participated in the celebration in 17 venues across Nagaland. NCC already has a record for largest yoga performance simultaneously by a single uniform youth organisation at multiple venues in 2015, stated a press release from Col C Konwer, PRO (Defence). The girl cadets performed the asanas as per the protocol given by the Ministry of AYUSH on June 21. Meanwhile, 200 cadets from 1 Nagaland (g) Bn NCC got an opportunity to perform yoga with the Governor of Nagaland at IG Stadium, Kohima.
Livingstone Hr. Sec. School: Livingstone Foundation Hr. Sec. School (LFHSS) observed the 3nd International Day of Yoga at its premises in the presence of renowned celebrity yoga guru Vivek Mishra, who led the yoga exercises during the hour long programme. A press release from the school informed that Mishra is not only a celebrity yoga guru but also an actor and model celebrity. He was also one of the contestants of the popular TV reality show BIG BOSS during its Season-7.
Mishra elaborated on the concept of yoga and highlighted the importance of yogic postures in maintaining a balanced and healthy life. Yoga, he added, is a way of life and not some ordinary exercise. He imparted several yoga asanas to the gathering.
Meanwhile, Andrew Ahoto, Chairman cum Principal of Livingstone Foundation Hr. Sec. School highlighted the significance of the day and also spoke about the benefits of yoga. He also advised the gathering not to attach any religion with yoga.
Along with the students and teachers of LFHSS, 30 NCC girl cadets from Christian Hr. Sec. School and 10 NCC girl cadets from Eden Hr. Sec. School also participated in the celebration.
78th Battalion of CRPF: 78th Battalion of CRPF set up special yoga camps at the unit headquarters in Zubza as well as in all the sub-units of the Battalion deployed in districts of Kohima, Dimapur and Mokokchung on International Day of Yoga. Officers, jawans and their families participated in large numbers, according to a press release from the battalion. The participants were briefed about the benefits of yoga in maintaining a healthy body and mind, especially to get rid of tensions and stress in daily life, it added.
A team of unit personnel led by Ram Chandra, Second-in-Command also participated in the joint yoga camp organized at Indira Gandhi Stadium, which was presided over by Governor of Nagaland. As part of the initiatives of Govt. of India, the unit is also sending its personnel for training in yoga courses at various training centres of CRPF so that after becoming Master Trainers they can train the other personnel of unit, the release said.
173rd Battalion CRPF: The 173rd Battalion CRPF, Airfield Dimapur also organized a “colourful event” in commemoration of International Day of Yoga along with the sister agencies. Around 98 personnel, including CISF unit, participated in the event held under the supervision of Joseph Keishing, Commandant and units officers. Keishing interacted with the personnel and discussed the benefits of yoga and asked them to adopt yoga in their lives, according to a press release. He also emphasized that yoga is not just an exercise but union of soul and body which can be very helpful in a soldier’s life.
ICAR-NRC on Mithun: To popularize and publicize yoga, ICAR-NRC on Mithun, Medziphema put up posters and banners on road and its campus on International Day of Yoga. The celebration started with mass yoga performance by all staffs and their family members which was led by a group of experts from Patajali House, Dimapur. The experts enlightened the participants with elaborate training on common yoga protocol, a press release said. Meanwhile, the Director of the institute encouraged the gathering for regular practice of yoga and suggested to partner with Patanjali group to organize mass yoga performance once in a month, preferably on every second Saturday.
Zakhama Military Station: To commemorate International Day of Yoga, troops of Zakhama Military Station participated in a mass yoga practice following the common yoga protocol issued by Ministry of AYUSH. A press release informed that yoga is regularly practiced in the weekly curriculum at the Military Station.
SASRD, NU: International Day of Yoga was also observed at SASRD, Nagaland University, Medziphema Campus. The Dean, Prof. RC Gupta gave the opening remarks while a brief talk was given by Prof. L. Daiho, Department of Plant Pathology on the importance of yoga and its health benefits. Prof. L. Daiho also demonstrated some yoga exercises. Four professionally trained yoga instructors from Dimapur gave demonstrations and guided the participants in yoga exercises.
15 BRTF: The 15 Border Roads Task Force (BRTF) organized mass yoga session at High School Junction, Kohima on the occasion of International Day of Yoga. The yoga session was conducted for all the personnel posted at HQ 15 BRTF. Similar sessions were conducted in allied units of the Task Force in various locations like Zubza, Mon, and Maram. During the session held from 7:00 am to 8:00 am, brief introduction of yoga and its benefits were also explained. Col N Joshi, Commander, 15 BRTF further highlighted the importance of yoga in bringing harmony between mind and body and advised everyone to inculcate yoga in daily routine.
Hindu Yuva Sangha: In order to promote and encourage yoga, Hindu Yuva Sangha (HYS) organised a yoga camp at K. Sachu Colony, Dimapur on June 21. The president, cultural and media secretary of the Sangha along with other office bearers and members turned it into a beneficial programme with voluntary participation from the people, informed a press release from HYS.
