Arts competition for girl students held

In commemoration of the International Women’s Day to be observed on March 8, the PHE Department in collaboration with the Mokokchung Arts & Aesthetics Management (MAAM) today organized an arts competition for girl students and a seminar on ‘menstrual cycle’ under the Swachh Shakti Week 2017 at the Mayangnokcha Govt Hr Sec School here today.
Altogether, forty-six female students from 11 schools from in and around the town participated in the arts competition which was held on the theme ‘Vision/dream of a clean village’. The organizers disclosed that the prizes will be distributed only on March 8 at Longkumer Kilem, Mokokchung where an elaborate programmed has been organized by the PHED, Mokokchung division and MAAM to celebrate the International Women’s Day.
Right after the arts competition, a seminar was also conducted at the MGHSS auditorium where the female students were educated on women’s menstrual cycle, how to take care of their bodies in a clean and hygienic manner. The seminar, which was conducted by Mokokchung ART (IMDH) Medical Officer, Dr Temsumenla Longkumer, was attended by girls students of Standard VII and above. Sanitary pads were also distributed to all the participants by the organizers.
The president of MAAM, Asola Ozukum disclosed that today’s programme was held under the ‘Swachh Shakti Week’ (March 1-8) which will conclude on March 8, International Women’s Day.
Nagaland to observe Int’l Women’s Day
Kohima, March 7 (MExN): International Women’s Day 2017 under the theme ‘Women in the challenging world of work: Planet 50-50 by 2030’ will be celebrated at Nagaland University, Kohima campus, Meriema on March 8 at 11:00 AM with Minister for Social Welfare & Parliamentary Affairs, Kiyanilie Peseyie as the chief guest.
Chief Secretary, Pankaj Kumar will deliver the keynote address. Chairperson, Nagaland State Commission for Women, Dr. Temsula Ao will speak on the topic ‘Strength of the Women’. Pro. Vice Chancellor, NU, Prof. BunoLiegise will speak on ‘empowering through quality education’. Mission Director, SRWC Secretary, NSSWB, Daisy Mezhur will give a highlight on one stop centre and women helpline (181).Director, Social Welfare. T. Merangtsungba Aier will chair the programme. The programme is being organized by Department of Social Welfare in collaboration with Nagaland State Social Welfare Board, State Resource Centre for Women and Women Studies Centre, Nagaland University.
