
Dimapur, March 8 (MExN): The International Women’s Day was commemorated across Nagaland State under the initiatives of district administrations and educational institutions.

Aghunato: The office of ADC Aghunato in collaboration with DHEW Zunheboto celebrated International Women’s Day at ADC office Aghunato with Councillor, Aghunato Town Council, Elison and Linobo (Sportswomen) as the main speakers. EAC, Aghunato, Kathyinla highlighted on Beti Bachao Beti Padhao schemes and key issues faced by the women and girls in Nagaland. She briefed on the various initiatives taken up by the Government to promote their welfare and called upon all stakeholders to commit to bettering the lives of women and girls through advocacy, awareness and partnership. As part of the occasion, certificates and cash awards were presented to meritorious students of Aghunato. A session on menstrual hygiene was also highlighted after which sanitary napkins were distributed to the women and girls present at the programme.

Atoizu: The District Administration in collaboration with the District Hub for Empowerment of Women (DHEW), Zunheboto organised the celebration of International Women’s Day at DBs Hall, Atoizu. The event also marked the 10th anniversary of the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) initiative. Welcome note was delivered from Dr Samuel Akho Konyak P, NCS, EAC Atoizu. In her address, Suzin Awomi, President of STL, Atoizu Unit, highlighted the important role of women in society, emphasizing the need for continuous efforts toward gender equality. The keynote address was delivered by Vinus Awomi, Councilor of Atoizu Town Council, who encouraged the community to support women’s empowerment.

Immanuel College: Women Cell, Immanuel College commemorated International Women's Day bringing awareness to ‘legal rights’ at the college auditorium on March 7. The event was graced by Advocate Senile Seb, Retainer Lawyer, Dimapur District Legal Service Authority. Advocate Senile Seb, in her speech, highlighted the special legal rights and provisions entitled to women to safeguard the safety of women, such as rights at the time of arrest and rights to protection of identity. She stated that women can lodge complaints through digital platforms and in cases of physical disability; the police are required to reach out to them to record their statements or assist them with any other purpose. She also spoke about CrPC offences against women, such as voyeurism, stalking, Protection of Children from Sexual Offences, Protection of Women from Domestic Violence, etc., and the means and ways women can safeguard their rights and the awareness on various compensations for rehabilitation. She further discussed women's welfare and the self-acquired property rights, emphasising on the possibilities of transferring the ownership of property, whether movable or immovable, by writing a will or gift deed to the chosen person. She also briefed the structure and working system of the Legal Services Authority.

JN Aier College: JN Aier College, Chümoukedima celebrated International Women’s Day under the theme Accelerate Action. Viloli H Kiba, Assistant Professor, Department of English, delivered the keynote speech emphasizing the need for proactive efforts toward gender equality. The event concluded with a benediction by the college principal.

KVK-Phek: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Phek, (ICAR-National Research Centre on Mithun, Medziphema) under the ICAR ATARI Zone VII Umiam celebrated, International Women’s Day (IWD) at KVK Phek. A lecture on Women Empowerment in Agriculture was given by Dr Sanjeev Kumar Singh, Senior Scientist and Head, KVK Phek. Dr Ragulraj, Senior Technical Officer, NRCM Porba spoke on Role of Women in Livestock Production and Management and a session by Dr Sharanappa CH on Oyster Mushroom Production and Stored Grain Pests and Their Management. The webcasting of the 4th Krishi Choupal was also organised. A farmer-scientist interaction session was held, during which inputs were distributed.

MGM HSS: MGM Higher Secondary School, Dimapur celebrated International Women’s Day on March 7. In his message, Fr Giju George spoke about the importance of empowering women and creating an inclusive world. The programme concluded with remarks from the Principal Reji Abraham who thanked all the participants and emphasised the importance of celebrating women not just on International Women’s Day but every day. The Principal also encouraged the students to continue advocating for equality and justice in their communities.
NDWM Nagaland & ACID: National Domestic Workers Movement (NDWM) Nagaland Region, in collaboration with Assisi Centre for Integrated Development (ACID), commemorated International Women's Day 2025. The event brought together 450 women, dignitaries and media personnel. Sr Pramila Lobo, Director of ACID/NDWM Nagaland Region ion the welcome address emphasised the inherent power and potential of women and girls. Advocate Priya Shyam, working both in Assam and Nagaland was the chief guest while Dikho Kaini (Luciana), Branch Manager of Nagaland Rural Bank, Dimapur was the guest of honour.

Niuland: International Women's Day was celebrated in Niuland on March 8 with a programme organised by the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao, Niuland District Administration and DHEW Niuland at DC conference hall. Kelengunuo Solo, EAC delivered the keynote address, highlighting the importance of women's empowerment and environmental sustainability. She explained the Mission Shakti and BBBP initiatives, seeking cooperation from society to drive positive change. The programme focused on two key themes: plantation and mental health. S Boloka Jimo, Specialist in financial literacy emphasised the significance of plantation in promoting environmental sustainability. Tokingla Kussun, Counsellor raised awareness about mental health issues affecting women and girls. The programme was attended by women from various wards and villages, representatives from Sumi Totimi Loka Niuland, ward representatives, officials from the District Administration, DHEW Niuland, and BBBP.

Oriental College Kohima: Oriental College Kohima Women's Cell organised a programme to mark the celebration of International Women’s Day. Keynote address was delivered by Neilaphreii, Assistant Professor, Dept of English. In her address, she emphasized the importance of taking swift and decisive steps to achieve gender equality. She further talked about gender-based violence and added that there must be promotion of gender equality in all spheres of life. She concluded by urging everyone to ensure that the theme ‘Accelerate Action’ is not just a slogan but a wake-up call for real change. The second session witnessed fun-filled games such as Head-Shoulder-Knee-Cup, Cup-Head Challenge and the Classic Chicken Dance.

PHED Kohima: The Rural and Urban Divisions of Kohima observed International Women's Day at Tuophema Village, Botsa Block, with Self-Help Groups (SHGs), women leaders, Swachhagrahis, and FTK users. The event was organised by the Public Health Engineering Department (PHED), Kohima Rural, and sponsored by the Water and Sanitation Support Organization (WSSO), PHED Nagaland. Ashale Seb, District Coordinator, Kohima Division, emphasised that achieving full gender parity will take approximately five generations, according to World Economic Forum data. She urged women to come forward, take advantage of government opportunities, and generate income. Seb highlighted the crucial role women play in water and sanitation, driving change and sustainability in society.
Dziesetseinuo Kiso, District Chemist, discussed water quality and safe drinking practices. She explained the importance of monitoring seven parameters: pH value, total hardness, chloride, turbidity, iron, nitrate, residual chlorine, and fluoride. Neilabeinuo Kense, an FTK user from Tuophema, demonstrated how to use FTK bags to monitor water quality. The department distributed FTK bags to all participants. The event honoured ‘Sheroes of Rural WASH’ and promoted women's empowerment and participation in water and sanitation initiatives.

Pranab College: Pranab College National Service Scheme Cell and Women Development Cell jointly organised International Women’s Day where the college alumni Lily Hansu, reigning Miss Northeast Fitness Model, Physique/Bodybuilding 2024 (Gold medalist) was felicitated for her achievements. It was followed by a community and extension activity by distributing free biodegradable sanitary pads in the adopted area (Zeliangrong Gram Dimapur) and blankets to the senior citizen women.

Tuensang: Tuensang District celebrated International Women's Day at CKS Hall, Tuensang organised by Mission Shakti Tuensang in collaboration with Changsao Thangjam Setshang with DC & Chairperson Mission Shakti Tuensang, Lithrongla Tongpi Rutsa as special guest. Speaking on the occasion, the DC Tuensang stated that in the context of the Naga Society, women are given equal opportunities in the field of education and employment but less active in decision making. She also urged the gathering not to differentiate between men and women in the field of education, highlighting that many women in the district are Successful entrepreneurs, business women and Cultivators in the society. Women are the backbone of the family and she should be a God fearing, trustworthy and resourceful, she added. The DC also appealed to all village Council that 25 % of the members should consist of women in the Village Development Board. She also exhorted the women to make use of the Mission Shakti in the district for the betterment of women in the districts. Dr Zujanbeni N Ngullei, EAC Tuensang spoke on Women and Education in Contemporary World and Chulongla Chang, Centre Administrator OSC Tuensang spoke on Women Helpline No.181 OSC and Women Centric Issues.
