International Women’s Week celebration concludes in Longleng

Longleng, March 17 (DIPR): Celebration of International Women’s Week 2018 in Longleng culminated on March 16 at GHSS Longleng auditorium. Students from different schools and women organizations of the district participated in the week-long event organized under the theme ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’  

Speaking on the theme, B. Watisangla Aier, principal, GHSS Longleng said women can take pride in empowering functional knowledge that can bring positive change in the society. Women, she asserted, have tremendous potentials. The speaker also exhorted the students to endeavor to excel in whatever they do to build a brighter and better future. She acknowledged that success is not easy but with dedication and hard work one is bound to accomplish good things and great lives.  

Meanwhile, Watisangla maintained that a person who moves ahead constantly without being discouraged by failure and obstacle will succeed in life. She encouraged the students to be respectful saying a student cannot progress without the blessing of teachers and elders. “No matter how educated and advance we are without discipline we cannot progress,” she added.  

The Deputy Commissioner of Longleng, John Tsulise Sangtam in his welcome address acknowledged that with great initiatives and cooperation extended by different heads of the institutions the program was conducted successfully. The DC said he was encouraged by the participation of students in different categories and activities carried out in schools during the weeklong celebration.  

Briefing on the theme, he said, “We must retrospect and see how much we have done to empower and to uplift the welfare of the women in the district.”  

The highlights of the program were cultural presentation by all the High Schools under Longleng, special number by St. Joseph Secondary School, and declaration of result and presentation of certificates to the winners of painting/ drawing/ essay competitions.
