International workshop on ‘Scientific Applications in South Asian Archaeology: An Integrative platform for research on the reconstruction of the past’ held at Hotel Japfu, Kohima on December 9 and 10.

Kohima, December 11 (MExN): A two-day international workshop on ‘Scientific Applications in South Asian Archaeology: An Integrative platform for research on the reconstruction of the past’ was held at Hotel Japfu, Kohima on December 9 and 10.

It was jointly organised by the University of Chicago, USA; Birbal Sahni Institute of Palaeosciences (BSIP), Lucknow and Department of History & Archaeology, Nagaland University. Prof Jagadish Kumar Patnaik, Vice-Chancellor, NU was the chief guest on the occasion, stated a press release from NU. 

The workshop hosted a variety of stimulating presentations and discussions. Talk topics ranged from stable isotope analysis to best lessons learned from anthropological research. Panel discussions provided a forum for spirited banter on geology, zoo archaeology, palaeogenomics, and more. Notably, a panel on community engagement featured representatives from different Naga villages to share their goals and best practices for scientific research. Many attendees commented that this was the first time they had seen community members speak on such a panel, it stated.
