IMPHAL, JULY 21 (NNN): The Home department of the Manipur Government has suspended internet in the state for five days starting from Friday afternoon. This suspension of the internet has been part of pre-emptive measures to address law and order problems following the rising cases of protest by various student bodies in the state capital demanding the removal of Adya Prasad Pandey, the Vice Chancellor of Manipur University. The Home department in an order in this regard said, "It has become necessary to take adequate measures to maintain law and order in public interest, by stopping the spread of disinformation and rumours, through various social media platform such as whatsapp, facebook etc. on mobile phone, for facilitating or mobilisation of mobs of agitators and demonstrators, which can cause loss of life or damage to public and private properties by indulging in arson and vandalism and other types of violent activities".
