‘Invest in peace for a better Nagaland’

Dimapur, September 15 (MExN): One day peace seminar on the theme “Coalition for Sustainable Peace” was organized by People's Forum for Peace (PFP) in collaboration with the Peace Channel at Peace Channel Training Centre on September 15.   Speaking on the occasion as resource person Prof. A. Lanunungsang Ao, former Pro-Vice Chancellor Nagaland University, said peace can be felt and experienced but not measured and added that peace is an element which everyone needs “every time and everywhere”.

Stating that challenging things are coming to North East because of the impact of globalization, liberalization and global warming, he cited the Act East policy and insisted that the act, which is aimed at connecting India with the rest of South East Asian countries, will have a great impact on the North East.

Though peace building is more difficult than constructing a building, yet peace is the need of everyone, Prof. Lanunungsang stated and encouraged the gathering to be strong and committed leaders and enable the peace building process to continue.

Rev. Dr. Anto, Director Peace Channel, while welcoming the participants said, “Conflict is natural and inevitable”. In this regard, he called for responding to conflicts “by coming together in one platform to prevent, intervene and resolve through purposeful dialogue”.

Taku Longkumer, President PFP, while sharing about the Forum for Peace - which is a concerted effort of peace lovers to bring peace in the state and region, said peace makers should rise above ‘isms’.

The programme began with an invocation from Rev. Dr. Shiwoto Assumi and culminated with a vote of thanks and action plan by the staffs of Peace Channel.
