Two days after a 19 year-old woman was found murdered near Gaili village in Peren district, the police said that the investigation into the case was going in the right track. Police sources in Peren disclosed that the official post mortem report was being awaited, while forensic specimens were being prepared to be sent for laboratory analysis.
Citing preliminary investigation, the sources said that the cause of death was likely stifling. Sexual assault was also not ruled out.
The deceased victim had gone missing on July 31. She was said to have been last seen on the evening of July 31 and her dead body was found not far from where she was last seen. FIR was lodged only after her dead body was discovered on August 1. Post mortem was conducted on August 2 in Dimapur.
The sources declined to comment on the status of the investigation citing it would impede the inquiry course on the ground but added that it was making progress.
