Iodine Deficiency Disorders awareness training in Tsg held

Tuensang: In order to disseminate awareness on Iodine Deficiency Disorders (IDD) its consequences, control and preventive measures, District Health Society Tuensang conducted awareness training on February 26 at CMO conference hall Tuensang.

A press release issued by Solomon Khiam District Media Officer, DPMU-NRHM, Tuensang said that representative from civil administration Tuensang, District Education Officer Tuensang, Chambers of Commerce Tuensang, ENWOTD and public leaders attended the training. Dy. CMO Dr. Pangjung Sangtam brief on the important of iodine, which is a micro-nutrient   essential for the normal growth and functioning of both the brain and body. Iodine deficiency is the diet forms a group of abnormalities known as Iodine deficiency disorder.

These disorders are caused by lack of iodine in diet, which ranges from simple goiter, mental retardation, and stunted growth of cretinism. He pointed out that it is the responsibility of every citizen to disseminate the information on Iodine Deficiency Disorders (IDD). Dr. I. Temsu Longchar DPO (UIP&RCH) conducted the practical session were he demonstrated about contain of iodine in salt by using testing kit. Salt testing kits were distributed to the participant.
