Irom Sharmila to meet Modi in Delhi

IMPHAL: Social activist from Manipur Irom Sharmila said today that she will meet Prime Minister-Elect Narendra Modi when she goes to New Delhi on May 27.

Sharmila told this to the waiting reporters today when she was produced before the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM), Imphal East district.

"I have full faith that Modi will fulfill the demand to repeal the Armed Forces Special Powers Act," expressed Sharmila.

Much to the wish of Sharmila the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Imphal East district had permitted her to go to New Delhi to appear in a court there on May 13.

Earlier, Sharmila had lamented that the Manipur government did not permit her to appear before the court of the Metropolitan Magistrate, Patiala House Court, New Delhi because once in Delhi she will be exposed to the national and international media.

On the other hand, the state government had expressed sometimes back that the fund crunch as the reason for not allowing Sharmila to go to Delhi.

Sharmila will leave on May 27 and will appear before the court on May 28 and returns to Imphal on May 29. She will be accompanied by a doctor, two nurses, a police constable and a jail staff.

A case is pending against her in the court there in connection with her agitation at Jantar Mantar, Delhi, demanding the repeal of the AFSPA 1958, some years ago.
