Is enough being done on HIV/AIDS in Nagaland?

Those who said ‘NO’ not enough is being done on HIV/AIDS in Nagaland had this to say:

• Not enough is done in Nagaland. Look at the increasing number of HIV cases. A lot of money is being pumped for HIV work, but the money is not reaching the effected people. All the money is spent to buy cars and sophisticated machines.

• Because a virus and can still enter the human body through intercourse and syringes

• AIDS is increasing and not decreasing.

• A lot of HIV activities with not much substance. There should be a public enquiry on the lakhs of rupees pumped into the State. It should not get publicity only when big officials come to the function. Nagaland needs good leadership to tackle the HIV menace.

• What we have in our hands is a major challenge that needs to be tackled not just by the concerned organisations and the government, but by every right thinking individual in the society...and also it always helps if the concerned health and NGOs involved have a ‘one track mind’ in dealing with this Herculean task.

• No, unless and until if there is special AIDS Education at the High School level, there will be no specific change with regard to HIV/AIDS scenario in Nagaland.

• We need to first teach and give knowledge/advise about HIV/AIDS to villagers hence seminars on HIV/AIDS should be a must in village areas not just in the towns.

• I wish more was being done. But sadly not much is being done even though a lot of fuss is being made.

• Why not conduct sexual awareness programmes in high schools n colleges?

• The exploding figure of HIV infected population in our state is a testimony of the fact that every one is just talking but doing nothing about it

Those who said ‘YES’ and that enough is being done on HIV/AIDS in Nagaland had this to say:

• A lot of awareness programmes are being carried out with mass participation from the government, NGOS and the public. The Nagaland State Aids Control Society is also doing a commendable job in sensitizing the people, training young people and also organising seminars and trainings for officials, students, NGOs, and even going to the grass-root level. The Campaign should not only end in the towns, but should also go to the remote villages in the state. It was also a good beginning to have sensitized the Barbers in Kohima about HIV/ AIDS, but more sections like the taxi drivers, bus drivers and the like should also be invited for such sensitizing programmes.
