Isak Sumi-led NSCN-K asserts legitimacy

Dimapur, March 24 (MExN):  The Isak Sumi-led NSCN-K group issued a statement on Friday refuting a recent statement made by the Chief Minister of Nagaland about the legitimacy of the group.

Earlier on March 23, Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, while addressing the Nagaland Legislative Assembly, said that the Chairman of the Ceasefire Monitoring Supervisory Board (CMSB) had officially communicated that the Isak Sumi-led NSCN-K is not a recognised group. However, the group in a press communiqué issued through its MIP, contended that its leader Isak Sumi is a recognised representative of NSCN/GPRN in the talks with the Government of India and is “officially and constantly in touch with the Government of India.” He continues to be the sole representative of NSCN/GPRN in addition to being the co-convenor of the Working Committee, Naga national Political Groups (WC, NNPGs) in political talks with the Government if India, it asserted.

According to the communiqué, since the formation of the NNPGs and subsequent signing of the ‘Agreed Position’ in 2017, “conspiracies are being waged by anti-solution and anti-Naga elements to disintegrate WC, NNPGs and sabotage Naga solution.” The Nagas are therefore informed not to be swayed by those who are ‘hell-bent’ in sabotaging the Naga political solution, it added.

On the recent scuffle within the party, the communiqué noted that two members of the opposing group are “wanted by the state law enforcing agencies” but they are still evading arrest. It also made several allegations against the group including bribery and attempted ‘assassination,’ among others, and asked the Nagas to “remain vigilant of anti-Naga forces marauding the land in the guise of national workers.”
