
Dimapur, January 27 (MExN): Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) has launched a special programme for school children named as “Young Scientist Programme” “Yuva VIgyani KAryakram (YUVIKA)”starting from the year 2019 in tune with the Government’s vision “Jai Vigyan, Jai Anusandhan” and also as part of the vision to expand the ongoing Capacity Building and outreach initiatives of ISRO.
A press release stated here that the programme is primarily aimed at imparting basic knowledge on Space Technology, Space Science and Space Applications to the younger ones with the intent of arousing their interest in the emerging areas of Space activities and to develop scientific temper in them.
The programme is for young and meritorious students who are studying in 9th standard (in the academic year 2019-20) will be eligible for the programme. The residential training programme will be of around two weeks duration during summer holidays (May 11 to 22) and it is proposed to select three students from each State /Union Territory (UT) to participate in this programme covering State/ CBSE/ ICSE syllabus. Five additional seats are reserved for Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) candidates across country. The selection will be based on 8th standard marks and extracurricular activities. The selection will be through online registration.
The interested students can register online through ISRO website www.isro.gov.in from February 3 to 24.
The programme is meticulously designed for two weeks duration and based on the geographical distribution of the states the students will be divided into four batches for reporting to four major centres of ISRO. Students selected from North East states and West Bengal will be attending the YUVIKA program at North Eastern Space Applications Centre (NESAC), Shillong. The participants will be given a chance to visit the rocket launching Centre, Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SDSC), Sriharikota during the programme.
The selected students will be accommodated in ISRO guest houses/hostels. Expenditure towards the travel of student, course material, lodging and boarding etc., during entire course will be borne by ISRO. II AC fare will also be provided to one guardian/parent for drop and pick up of student from reporting centre.
