DIMAPUR, DECEMBER 2 (MExN): The Nagaland Foothills Road Construction Committee (NFHRCC), alongside representatives of Dimapur-based tribal Hohos and the Young Nagas Action Committee for Foothills Road, has urged the state government to issue a work order for the two-lane Foothills Road project within four days.
The demand was made during an emergency consultative meeting held today in Dimapur, where participants resolved to withdraw all members of the 12 tribes from the ongoing Hornbill Festival if the deadline is not met.
The Foothills Road project, regarded as an extraordinary "People’s Project" fully initiated by the Naga public, has been at the center of discussions. Emphasizing the sanctity of the project, the committee declared that no individual, regardless of their position, has the authority to assert supremacy over it. Any attempts to do so, the committee warned, would be at the individual's own risk.
The alignment of the Foothills Road, a critical aspect of the project, was another key concern. The committee stressed that any changes or alterations to the alignment without the written consent of the NFHRCC would lead to severe consequences.
The committee also pointed to a prior communication with the concerned department, referencing a letter dated October 28, 2024, outlining the work assignment. It warned that any deviation from this agreement would be considered a betrayal of the 12 tribal Hohos, holding the government and the department accountable for any fallout.
