Kohima | September 21 : The first Nagaland state Inter Government Middle School (SSA) Archery Championship commenced here this morning at Indira Gandhi Stadium. Altogether, 22 adopted Government Middle Schools (SSA) by the Directorate of Youth Resources & Sports, Nagaland are taking part in the championship.
The championship is witnessing the participation of around 200 GMS students including match officials from 22 adopted GMSs in archery discipline across the state. This tournament is designed for 22 adopted GMS as part of their curriculum under SSA Scheme. The students are playing for men/women individual Olympic round, gold and bronze medal match (both men and women), team event both men and women etc.
Inaugurating the championship as the chief guest, O.T. Chingmak Chang, NCS, State Mission Director, Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) assured to extend support from SSA in the field of archery and at the same time to provide more equipments. The chief guest stated that Nagas have inborn quality in the use of bow and arrow, and asked the students to work hard with sincerity to bring out the best in developing the art of archery. He informed the students that with the coming of Christianity archery was discarded in many places but through hard and serious initiative by the department (SSA) archery is beginning to develop more which we are witnessing the participations of many Nagas in national and international level.
He encouraged all the coaches to be more sincere to bring out the best in developing the raw talent of the young students and assured the gathering that the department would be providing all the required facilities and training. He called on the student to work hard and wished all to participate in the National and International level in the near future.
It may be mentioned that the competition was represented by all the 11 districts and 2 persons from each district. The first prize will be awarding a sum of Rs. 1000/-, Rs. 700/- and Rs. 500/- as second and third respective. Around 187 students, Head Teachers and officials are taking part in the competition. Earlier the chief guest declared open the archery competition.
The programme was chaired by Visabio Peseyie State Taekwondo Coach, invocation prayer by Khono Thisa and special number was presented by Kütsapo GMS.
The closing function will take place on September 22 at 4:00 PM.
