It’s been an ‘exciting and tiring’ day for Ngamjong JN Yanlem since the results of the Higher Secondary School Leaving Certificate Exams were declared on Tuesday in Nagaland.
A student of St John’s Higher Secondary School, Dimapur, Ngamjong topped the Science Stream by scoring 476 (95.20%) out of 500. He is also the State subject topper for Biology (98) and Computer Science (96).
Talking about his preparation process, the 18-year-old said that studying in a residential school was a big help. “We had fixed routines and I was able to maintain a good study schedule,” he said, adding that he typically spent 7-8 hours a day studying. He also noted that the pandemic did disrupt his schedule for some time, but he managed to pull through with encouragement from his family and teachers.
For the future, Ngamjong wants to follow his sister’s footsteps and study medicine and is preparing to sit for NEET (National Entrance-Cum-Eligibility Test) and other exams.
The fourth child among five siblings, Ngamjong considers his parents as his role models. They have worked so hard and against many odds for me and my siblings, he said, jesting that “They are happier than me right now.” Notably, Ngamjong also secured the top 8 position in the 2020 HSLC examination.
Overall, his hard work and effort in preparing for the exams, and the flurry of attention he and the family has received since the results were declared has been a bit overwhelming and exhausting, but “it’s been worth it,” he remarked.
In parting, he advised his juniors to pursue their studies with consistency and hard work. “Also keep in mind the people who have placed their hope in you, because the success at the end would be for all,” he added.
