IUN outreach initiative offers free check-ups

Chümoukedima, February 19 (MExN): International University, Nagaland (IUN) organised a free and comprehensive Health Camp on February 19 at Chümoukedima Town Council Hall, with the objective of promoting preventive healthcare and to create awareness in the community about the non-communicable diseases and common health issues.  

An official update informed that the camp was conducted as part of the university’s social outreach initiative and witnessed active participation from a large number of beneficiaries from nearby areas.

The health camp was organised by the Department of Medical Laboratory Sciences, Department of Physiotherapy and Department of Naturopathy & Yogic Sciences (International University, Nagaland).

The camp was led by qualified medical practitioners, Dr Varsha Tamang (PT), HOD i/c Department of Physiotherapy; Dr Jutika Bhuyan, HOD i/c Department of Naturopathy and Yogic Sciences and Sungjeminla Pongen, Assistant Professor, Department of Medical Laboratory Sciences, along with the students.

The health camp offered free medical check-ups, including general health screening, blood pressure monitoring, blood sugar testing, BMI assessment and basic consultation services in order to promote awareness about the importance of healthy lifestyle and to know about one’s fitness level.

Dr Zavise Rume, Director of Vocational studies, (IUN) addressed the crowd on the importance of natural remedies and traditional healing practices. He emphasized adopting holistic approaches to health, encouraging people to integrate natural therapies, balanced nutrition, and positive lifestyle habits for long-term wellness. 

The Vice-Chancellor (IUN), Dr Dipak Kumar Shukla, also spoke on the occasion and highlighted the vision and mission of the University. He elaborated on the various academic programmes and professional courses being offered for the academic year 2026–27, encouraging students to take advantage of quality higher education opportunities provided by the University.  

Zakietuo Shuya, Colony Council Convenor, Ward 6, Chümoukedima also expressed gratitude to the university and appreciated the efforts of the university in making healthcare accessible for free.

Further the university informed that communities or villages interested in organising similar free health camps may contact the International University, Nagaland.
